General Information |

1.1 The Dr. Cecil Chao Architectural Design Award is founded and sponsored by Dr. Cecil Chao.
1.2 The Award Ceremony will be held in the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (“HKIA”) Annual Ball on 22 November 2008 at Conard Hotel, Hong Kong.
The Award is organized by Dr. Cecil Chao Architectural Design Award Limited., with HKIA and FuturArc, BCI Asia Limited (“BCI Asia”) as the co-organizers (collectively the “Organizers”
2. Objectives
The underlying aim of the Dr. Cecil Chao Architectural Design Award is for the recognition and promotion of architectural design excellence for architectural projects completed in the Greater China Region (including Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan)
3. Eligibility
● The project may consist of one or more buildings. ● The project must be located in Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR or Taiwan. ● The project must have been completed by 1 September 2008 and the certificate of completion must be submitted together with the official registration form. ● Registered architects around the world are eligible to submit their application for this Award. If the project is of a joint-venture nature, the role of the architect and the joint-venture parties should be clearly specified and defined. ● Where a project is nominated and wins the competition, the architect in charge of the nominated project will be awarded. ● Each applicant or nominator may submit up to maximum of 5 projects. ● Each project submitted will be considered as a separate application and will thus require its own registration form, fee and materials.
4. Submission Requirement
Each application must be accompanied by a binded booklet containing the following materials (written in English) in A3 size:
4.1 Project Description & Concept: ● a brief of the project and concept in no more than 500 words.
4.2. Drawings: ● 1 country map and 1 city map. ● 1 location plan with scale 1/1000. ● 1 site plan with scale 1/500. ● floor plans, principal elevations & sections with scale 1/100 or 1/200 (or in a scale sufficient to explain the project). ● conceptual drawings in 2D or/and 3D, if any
4.3. Photographs: ● 1 aerial view of the project (optional but preferred). ● 2 perspective views. ● 2 views in its immediate surrounding. ● 3 views from inside. ● 3 particular aspects of the project. ● details of the project, including materials and techniques used in the project. (All photographs must be clearly labeled. Location of photographs should be indicated on a layout plan).
4.4. Press Kit (optional): ● all press / media releases which mention the project and are relevant to be examined by the Jury Panel.
4.5. CDROM/ DVDROM ● 1 CDROM/ DVDROM containing all the materials including the completed Registration Form (Form 1) and Fact Sheet (Form 2). All photographs / images must be presented in jpg or tiff format and the image size should not be less than 350dpi.
5. Registration Fee
A non-refundable registration fee of US$200 is payable upon submission of each application.
6. Assessment Criteria
The criteria for assessment will include but not limited to the following:- ● contributions to architectural design, culture and creative use of technology. ● impacts to the community / society. ● sustainability of the building. ● enrichment to the built environment in terms of urban planning and architectural design. ● The Jury Panel’s decision is conclusive and binding on all applicants and may not be disputed.
7. Architectural Prize
● The winner will be presented with a cash prize of HKD 500,000 and a trophy.
8. Selection Process
● The Jury Panel will select 10 projects from all entries in the first round to enter the second round and then elect 3 out of the 10 projects in the second round. ● The Jury Panel then will meet in Hong Kong to select the winning project from the 3 selected in the second round. ● Only the winning project will be awarded. ● The winner of his / her representative must be present at the Award Ceremony, expect with reason approved by the Jury Panel. ● The winning project and all short-listed entries will be published in magazines and exhibited after the Award Ceremony.
9. Disqualification
Any application/nomination will be disqualified from the competition:
1. if received after the stated time in clause 4 or 2. if any of the mandatory requirements of the competition is disregarded. |
